Laser Engraving for coated metal blades & metal handles
Many knife blades come with a coating, commonly in black, grey, or brown. Laser engraving is typically the best option for these knives as it removes the coating to reveal the bare metal beneath, creating a striking contrast. However, if the coating is a similar color to the metal (such as grey), the engraving may lack contrast and be difficult to see. In such cases, we recommend using rotary engraving for better visibility or CerMark laser engraving (see next items).

Rotary (Traditional) Engraving for bare metal
Rotary engraving, also known as computerized or diamond drag engraving, uses a diamond tip to lightly engrave into the metal surface. Unlike laser engraving, this method creates a shallow etching with a depth of around 0.003 inches, though this can vary based on the metal's hardness. The engraving will appear as the bare metal scratched, and the contrast and visibility will depend on the difference between the surface color and the engraved metal. It's important to note that rotary engraving can scratch through any protective coating on a blade, potentially compromising its integrity and longevity.

We can laser engrave on stainless steel and uncoated knives using CerMark which produces a crisp, black mark. The CerMark bonding agent ensures that the engraved design is durable and highly visible against the metal surface. This method is ideal for creating detailed and long-lasting engravings on your knives and blades without compromising the integrity of the metal by engraving into them.
